After breakfast, departure for a city tour in private transport to know the city. Elvas is truly one of Portugal’s hidden gems, an historic and wonderfully preserved town situated on the arid plains of the Portuguese-Spanish border. Elvas is located in the far east of the country, and few tourists rarely consider visiting, but those who make the journey will be rewarded with a fascinating town rich in history and beauty. When viewed from the air the town walls of Elvas form a unique star shape, and hiding behind these complex defenses is a delightful town that exudes Portuguese charm. Our guide will take you on a Tour trough this beautiful city.

Next stop in Marvão, one of the prettiest medieval towns in Portugal. Is like stepping into the history of Portugal. For centuries, it has served as a border town to Spain and the fortified town has withstood many battles with the Spanish troops. So Marvão is sitting on a mountaintop, representing the past these days. Is a very impressive town. With thick walls surround it and a large castle is sitting on top.

Lunch included at the Pousada of Marvão, where you will be able to witness an amazing panoramic view.

After lunch before getting to Évora, a very special spot also called as the “Princess of the Alentejo”, Castelo de Vide. Is one of the most romantic places in this region. It’s fortified village that underwent several raids in the Middle Ages because of it’s proximity with Spain. Take the opportunity to lose yourself in the alleys, on the Jewish quarter and end at the Castle and surrounding lovely houses decorated with beautiful flowers.

Day 3 – ÉVORA | VILA VIÇOSA |ÉVORA

Breakfast at the hotel. The morning will be spent in Évora. In 1986, the city’s historic center of Évora was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, stood out for its various historical monuments in contrast to the white houses that were inspired by the Islamic Art of Al-Andalus. Visit the cathedral with interesting Gothic details, The Roman Temple of Evora, known as the Roman Temple of Diana, and the strange, most impressive, century-old Bones Chapel located in St. Francis Church. It was built in the 17th century on the initiative of three Franciscan monks who, in the spirit of the time (Religious Counter-Reformation according to the norms of the Council of Trent), intended to convey the message of the transience of life, as can be deduced from the famous warning at the entrance : “We bones here are waiting for you.”

Continuing to Vila Viçosa, known as the “Gems of Alentejo”. Although small, this is one of the most precious and charming jewels of Alentejo. The village is truly an open-air museum.

Lunch at the Pousada of Vila Viçosa included.

The name Vila Viçosa (lush village) is due to the fertility of the soils and the charming territory. This village in Alentejo Portugal is Florbela Espanca’s hometown, one of the country’s most notorious poetesses. The author has written extraordinary works of art of Portugal’s literature. She was also a pioneer in the feminist movement in the nation. So, she was extremely important to make the Portuguese aware of the name of the village, unknown before her time.  With a rich heritage created by Man throughout the centuries, Vila Viçosa is full of history. However, Nature was and still is the provider of the raw material with which multiple decorative pieces made of rock are created. The highlight goes to marble, a fundamental part in the economy of the whole county. Today and for a long time. Vila Viçosa started being the royal residence during the holidays of the King João IV, a splendid royal palace which has no match in the Portuguese architecture. That is why you must visit it. Here, you will be able to appreciate rare beauty that you will never forget. Why? Well, first because it is a building in the Mannerist style, with a 110-meter facade totally covered with marble from the region.

Return to Evora and Tasting Dinner with Classic Wine Harmonization at the Degust’AR M’AR De AR Aqueduto 5 * restaurant.
